SILETZ FISH TRAP:

Kevin and I had a mission to get a hen and buck for the ODFW Aquatic and Angler program at Newport Middle School, then add some wild stock to the pens in the Siletz Trap. Its planned for Friday to move wild pairs to the Alsea Hatchery. The weather got better as we moved up to Palmer and we chased a coyote down 116 for awhile. At Palmer, we found 2 dark, but acceptable for show and tell, so we kept the best one, cleaned the trap and choke points in the lower ponds and moved on to the Siletz trap. We had one hatchery hen to match up to our buck from Palmer, but there were 7 wilds, including one truly fine looking hen in the 18-20 lb class, and one jack. We kept the one hatchery for school and penned up the rest up with others already in there for Friday pickup. We also looked over options for storing a rescue sling inside the trap in case someone needs to be extracted by the hoist. The river looked in great shape as we came down. I needed to shorten my day, so Kevin dropped me at Ilahee and move on to Bohannan.
